How does the lifting mechanism of a gantry crane work

The lifting mechanism of the gantry crane drives the reducer through an electric motor, and then drives the drum to rotate through gear transmission. The lifting hook ascends or descends by winding or releasing the steel wire rope, thus completing the vertical transportation of goods. Power transmission: The electric motor serves as the power source, delivering rotational power to the reducer. The reducer reduces the speed and maximizes the torque through gear transmission, ensuring that the reel receives sufficient driving force.

Drum rotation: The reducer output shaft is connected to the drum, driving it to rotate. The surface of the drum is wound with steel wire ropes, and its rotational direction determines whether the steel wire ropes are wound or released.

Wire rope movement: One end of the wire rope is fixed to the drum, while the other end passes over the pulley block and connects to the hook. When the drum rotates, the wire rope winds around or unwinds from the drum, converting into a linear lifting and lowering motion of the hook.

Brake control: The brake is installed on the high-speed shaft of the reducer or the drum, and achieves positioning function by generating a resistance torque through friction plates. During the lifting and lowering process of the hook, the brake can interrupt the transmission chain at any time to ensure that the hook stops at the desired position and remains stationary.

Safety protection: The lifting mechanism is equipped with safety devices such as limit switches to prevent the steel wire rope from over-reeling or exceeding the descent stroke, thus avoiding equipment damage or accidents.
