Precautions for operating gantry cranes
As a Chinese gantry crane manufacturer, our editor will explain to you today the precautions for operating gantry cranes:
When using a gantry crane to lift heavy objects, the steel wire rope of the hook should be kept vertical, and it is not allowed to drag the lifted object at an angle.
2. When lifting heavy objects, the center of gravity (Z-center) should be accurately determined and the objects should be securely bundled. If there are sharp corners, wooden pads should be used to cushion them.
3. The crane shall not perform any slewing motion until the heavy object is lifted off the ground.
4. When lifting or lowering heavy objects, the speed should be uniform and steady to avoid rapid changes in speed, which could cause the heavy object to swing in the air and pose a danger. When lowering the heavy object, the speed should not be too fast to prevent it from being damaged upon landing.
5. When the crane is lifting a load, try to avoid raising or lowering the boom. If it is necessary to raise or lower the boom while lifting a load, the lifting weight must not exceed 50% of the specified weight.
6. When the crane rotates under a lifting condition, close attention should be paid to whether there are obstacles around. If there are obstacles, measures should be taken to avoid or clear them.
7. No personnel are allowed to stay under the crane boom, and efforts should be made to avoid personnel passing through.
8. When two cranes operate on the same track, the distance between them should be greater than 3m.
When two cranes are used to lift an object together, the lifting weight should not exceed 75% of the total lifting capacity of the two cranes, and the walking and lifting actions of the two cranes should be consistent.
10. The lifting and luffing wire ropes need to be inspected weekly and records should be kept. Specific requirements should be implemented in accordance with the relevant regulations for lifting wire ropes.
11. When the empty vehicle is moving or turning, the lifting hook should be kept at least 2 meters above the ground.
12. When the wind force exceeds level 6, work should be stopped immediately. TMK should rotate the boom to the downwind direction and lower it appropriately, and secure the hook firmly. The gantry crane must be fitted with iron wedges (rail stops) and raise the hook to its upper limit. At the same time, close the doors and windows, cut off the power, and secure the guy ropes. This procedure should also be followed after regular work is completed.
13. It is strictly prohibited to stack miscellaneous items on the crane platform to prevent them from falling and injuring people during operation. Frequently used tools should be placed in a dedicated toolbox inside the operator's cabin.
